Pacific Southwest District Chapter
Mission Statement
The purpose of the Pacific Southwest District
LREDA Chapter shall be: the religious growth and learning of people of all
ages, to support and encourage the professional and spiritual growth of
religious educators, and to enhance the field of liberal religious education
within the Pacific Southwest District.
Bylaws
The Pacific Southwest Chapter
of LREDA is established to support and promote the professional and spiritual
growth of religious educators in the PSWD and encourage good professional
practices in religious education within congregations of the PSWD.
The purpose of the PSWD Chapter of LREDA shall
be to:
A. Provide
a network of encouragement and support for our members;
B. Encourage
the sharing of information and resources within our denomination and among
members;
C. Act as
experienced resource people in the area of Unitarian Universalist religious
education for groups and individuals within PSWD, including but not limited to
religious education committees, paid and unpaid religious educators, RE
teachers, youth advisors, and parish ministers;
D. Maintain
a continuing, participatory association with the continental Liberal Religious
Educators Association.
Any member of LREDA within the
Pacific Southwest District is eligible to become a member of the PSWD LREDA
Chapter. All dues-paying members of this
chapter are eligible to vote.
The officers shall be President, Vice
President, Secretary, Treasurer, UUMA Liaison, Continental Liaison, and
At-large member. All officers shall be
members of this chapter.
The President shall call, convene, and preside
over the membership meetings. The Vice
President shall substitute in the absence of the President, and perform other
tasks as assigned by the President. The
Secretary shall take and distribute minutes of the meetings. The Treasurer shall handle the chapter’s
finances. The At-large member’s
portfolio is to be determined by the Board.
Nominations for officers
shall be made by email or in person to the secretary by the end of the District
Assembly retreat. Officers shall be
elected by mail-in ballot that is to occur no later than two weeks after the
District Assembly. All ballots shall be
counted by a third party to be chosen by the President. All elections are decided by a simple majority.
UUMA Liaison and
Continental LREDA Liaison positions require special connections or
qualifications and may be exempted.
The Board may fill any
vacated position through appointment until an election can be held at the next
District Assembly.
The President and Vice President
shall be elected in the even years for two-year terms. The Treasurer, Secretary and At-large member
shall be elected in the odd year for a two-year term. No one shall serve more than three
consecutive terms.
Committees
shall be appointed by the President and serve as needed.
In the event of financial hardship a
member may apply to the President for a full or partial waiver for that year,
confidentially and without loss of rights and privileges of membership. Failure to pay dues by October 20 shall
result in revocation of membership.
The Treasurer shall present a financial report
at each meeting of the membership.
General membership meetings
shall be held in conjunction with the annual Pacific Southwest District
Assembly Professional Day(s) (this shall be considered our Annual Meeting), and
two other meetings, to be determined by members.
Having been chartered by the
continental LREDA, this chapter shall cooperate with and support LREDA in
appropriate ways.
Bylaw amendments must be
submitted two months before the annual meeting.
Bylaws will be amended by a majority vote of the membership present at
any of this chapter’s regularly scheduled meetings. A Quorum shall be 50% of paid LREDA
membership. Proposed bylaw amendments
shall be circulated to the membership no later than 30 days prior to the
meeting at which they are to be discussed and voted.
Any member may propose bylaw amendments.
