at “Connecting Our Diverse Histories to Our Living Heritage”
Unitarian Universalist History & Heritage Convocation
October 8-10, 2010, Espousal Center, Waltham, Massachusetts
Join the rich gathering of ministers, scholars, students, religious educators and all who cherish the history and heritage of Unitarian Universalism at this Convocation! You are invited to present in categories noted here. See the Convocation website or contact Helen Zidowecki (hzmre@hzmre.com, 32 Stevenstown Road, Litchfield, ME 04350) for an “Application to Present” to submit with the description. Applications are due May 1, except Sermons and Hymns, which are due by June 1. For more information, see the contact for the category.
SERMONS: Submit a sermon on the theme of "Unitarian Universalist History as a Source of Religious Meaning Today." Sermons that have been delivered or are scheduled for delivery by 2011 are welcome. The winning sermon will be incorporated into our worship service on Sunday, October 10, and the winner will receive free registration and transportation to the Convocation. Other sermons may be incorporated into the Convocation. The winning sermon and other selected sermons will be published in the Journal of Unitarian Universalist History or online. WORKSHOPS: Suggested themes include: writing congregational history, accessing archival resources, preaching on history and heritage, teaching UU history to children and adults, collecting oral histories, developing impersonations of famous UUs, preserving historic sites, or teaching UU history at the seminary level. Workshops might feature formal instruction by one or two persons, or informal conversation in which all who attend bring something to share. Submit up to a TWO-PAGE DESCRIPTION. If you would rather co-facilitate a workshop, let us know of your interest and we will match you up with a co-facilitator. (Contact Dan McKanan at dmckanan@hds.harvard.edu)
PERFORMANCES: If you have a play, impersonation, poem, or song to share, please submit up to a TWO-PAGE DESCRIPTION. Indicate the approximate length. (Contact Mark Harris at minister@fpwatertown.org)
SCHOLARLY PAPERS: Presentation of academic papers is in conjunction with the history section of Collegium, which will be holding its annual meeting October 7-9. We hope to publish suitable papers in the Journal of Unitarian Universalist History or a similar venue. Submit a TWO-PAGE DESCRIPTION of your paper. Presenters will be expected to submit a more extended text one month prior to the conference. (Contact Dave Tarbell at dwtarbell@optonline.net)
HYMNS: Entries for the hymn contest, in conjunction with the UU Musicians' Network, must feature new music with or without original lyrics. Winning hymns will be sung at the Convocation, and the winner will receive free registration and transportation to the Convocation. Other hymns may be incorporated into the Convocation. Hymns featuring non-original lyrics should be accompanied with documentation that the text is in the public domain, or a signed and dated agreement from the copyright holder granting permission to use the text. Entries need to be suitable for worship use by amateur singers, and include keyboard accompaniment and/or guitar chords. Please submit TWO PRINTED COPIES using FinaleTM, SibeliusTM or other music publishing software. PDF files will be acceptable. EXHIBITS: Individual or organizational projects or exhibits are welcome. Submit up to a ONE-PAGE DESCRIPTION, including the space required. Registered participants will have priority for exhibit space. (Contact Helen Zidowecki at hzmre@hzmre.com)
Partners in Unitarian Universalist History and Heritage is an organization of groups, whose purpose is to provide support, resources, and advocacy, and to support collaborative work. Member organizations are the Unitarian Universalist Historical Society, the Unitarian Universalist Religious Education History Group, the Unitarian Universalist Women's Heritage Society and Universalist Heritage Foundation. Unitarian Universalist Collegium co-sponsors the Convocation.
