Located in the heart of Bergen County, NJ, the Central Unitarian Church of Paramus, NJ is searching for an interim choir director. This is approximately a three month assignment starting in April 1 through mid June, 2008 with potential for long term hire.

You'll work with a warm, vibrant group of 15-20 choir members with possibilities of increasing choir participation. This position pays $755/month for the following hours: Monday evenings from 8-9:30 PM for choir practice & one to two Sunday mornings a month from 9:15 AM -12 Noon for performance at service. This position reports to the minister.

The candidate should have the following characteristics:

• Experience with choral direction
• Degree in music or related work experience
• Passion for teaching music and ability to energize the music ministry
• Knowledge and experience in vocal technique and performance
• Interest and experience in broad range of musical styles
• Capable of establishing positive relationships and working with people of varied musical backgrounds and experiences, and integrating them into the group
• Knowledge of the choral repertoire suitable to various levels, from beginner to experienced singer
• Capable of working independently, but in cooperation with an accompanist, the music committee, and the minister

Primary duties include:

• Conducting choir practice every Monday night from 8-9:30 PM
• Directing the choir during Sunday services when choir performs
• Work in conjunction with music committee to coordinate guest musicians
