Organist/Accompanist Job Description

Requirements: Some flexibility in schedule, and a willingness to work as a member of a fun and dynamic team of musicians providing music for worship services in an eclectic variety of styles. A degree in Organ/Piano and/or Sacred Music or comparable experience, and training and experience sufficient to carry out the duties listed below:

Responsibilities:

( average 8 hours per week for 3 weeks in each month, totaling circa 25 hours/month):

• Provide organ and/or piano music for three Sunday services per month.

• Accompany Adult Choir rehearsal three times per month on Thursday evenings from September through June.

• Off-duty Sundays will be negotiated no less than six weeks in advance of the prior Thursday rehearsal.

• Rehearse occasionally with children’s choirs in preparation for performance.

• Work with Parish Minister, Director of Lifespan Religious Education and Director of Music in area of general planning and leadership of music program.

• Supervise, with Director of Music and Music Committee, the maintenance of the organ and the sanctuary piano, and set policies for their use.

• Benefit - four weeks of paid vacation.

• Provide organ music for weddings and memorial services when Director of Music is not available, or assist in securing the services of a suitable substitute organist.

Instruments:

Two-manual, 15-rank 1983 Aeolian Skinner organ; Yamaha grand piano.

Salary:

$7,000-$9,000 per year, depending on candidate’s education and experience .
