The Winchester Unitarian Society has an opening for a Children’s Choir Director beginning September 1, 2008.

The Children’s Choir is currently comprised of children aged 6-12 and averages 7-12 members. Occasionally the older children will perform separately from the larger group.

Responsibilities include the following:

• Work with the Music Director and the Music Committee to run the children’s music program at the Society and to develop other programs where appropriate.
• Lead one rehearsal weekly, currently Sunday mornings at 9:30 am, except for holidays and school vacation weeks.
• Support the Assistant Minister for Children and Families in a monthly children’s chapel service.
• Lead the children’s choir in monthly performances during the worship service, including services on Christmas Eve and Children’s Sunday (usually in June).
• Choose music that reflects Unitarian Universalist principles and values. The ideal candidate will be familiar with a wide range of music from a variety of cultures.
• Help recruit singers to the program.
• Communicate to parents and church staff through notices, e-mail, newsletter articles and our web site.
• Work with the Religious Education committee to bring music into our Sunday School program.

Qualifications

• Experience in working with children’s choirs and within a church community.
• Keyboard skills are required for rehearsal.
• Availability on Sunday mornings for rehearsal and selected worship services. Some flexibility with the schedule is possible. Must also be available on Christmas Eve for the family service which is usually scheduled at 4:00 pm.

Compensation $3000-$4000 commensurate with experience. The church year runs from September to mid- June.
