Phone Chain Reports
Jova
Jazmin-here, so just did Lena
Lehna- currently at the district YAC meeting. Co-Dean for DRUUMM YAYA Con, also doing JTW 2 training in march. Gave props to Hunger Dinner, AR Sessions kind of long. Worships needed a little work and more organization and spirituality. Needs to get more involved in her district, and trying to do so. Suggests not waiting to last day to do resolution stuff, prepare the process more.
Laura Manning
Amy Leyenberger-took all of the AR literature from prepacket, copied it and passed out to all of conference folx. Helping plan SWD AR CON- how does that YFUUD $$ work. Jesse Jaeger answered. Amy’s leading a workshop at a rally on what went down at YC and doing turn over stuff to prepare for turnover in January.
Lance Jennings- felt like the people of PoCC were not involved or included and there needs to be more responsibility in order to be accountable.
Katie-
Kendra-Life’s been good, currently has 5 “boo’s”… finally got rid of ROY! Her old man is Scott, he’s real nice and everything. She has been doing AR stuff in New Orleans, and the she’s excited about the Design Team. Real excited about spirit week and homecoming at school!
Asha-
Alicia- Is doing the LDC in the BC region, had a lot of registrations! Yay! Also involved in finding a website person for the Canadian Youth Web Page.
Rachelle-October 3-5 had a RYSC con. Also had an advisor training. Passing on YCR duties in a phase out stylie. Helping plan CANUUdle, wants to do AR there. Working on newsletter called Coffee Bean.
Dale- working on a con that fell through. Had a different con that had 18 people and it rocked. It was held in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He is working on a newsletter for the region. Asha also adds about SAC. And also about sending SACs to YSJC and the concern was brought up about US centric social action issues.
Meggie doesn’t know who hers are, so didn’t do it. Katie will check it and work it out.
Annie-
Jodi- AR 10 times better than last years. Plenary sucked. Bill Sinkford coming was cool, but wanted to discuss with him which wasn’t allowed, and it kind of creeped her out. Suggested having Plenary every day and AR everyday. District made a year-long commitment to work toward anti-racism. Connections, yodeling on a different accordion. Has a problem: YAC is like 30 people and wants suggestions for a better selection process.
Gareth: Didn’t like plenary all on the last day. Too busy with it all on the last days. Wanted People of Colour trainers as well as White Ally trainers. AR is on long-term agenda for the district. He is the Sac and YCR.
Timmy boy-
Molly- impressed with YC except the bathroom situation. AR was amazing. A-Teams, didn’t get too into it, but it is a good idea. ID groups were more for her. Pre-packet was good, maybe include a YC guide for dummies for first year YC folx. Have an Advisor training coming up. Having a Con the weekend of the SOA protest and part of it is going to that con. Working on a joint con with FLD.
Angelica-Good overall reviews. Coming back to district, more empowered to bring AR. Hosting an SDC.
Lori- out of communication.
Katie
Marrissa- C*SAC, loved AR, liked ID groups. More resolution time. Didn’t always feel entirely comfortable at the resolution thing, possibly because she felt too old. Currently working on YSJC, and a tool to keep YRUU active with other outside groups. Didn’t like the way that YC resembled the government.
Jerry Franklin- liked AR training, gonna try and bring it back to local church. Maybe even the Junior high kids or even younger folx.
Hope- didn’t really talk to her either.. Jova is filling in the info ‘cause that is her Mom. Hope didn’t like the site. Thought the AR training was good. Plenary on last minute was not so great, maybe avoid it for next year. Working on a lot of DRUUMM stuff.
Hannah-
Avalon-talked online, hence the computer. Didn’t really talk about YC on this one. Really liked it except some personal problems during free time. Got heated in plenary. Avalon and Dan drama resolved, they’re still together! YAY! Discuss problems in the district. Hasn’t been able to be active in district. AR in district last year a little, but little or none this year.
Marcus- not at youth council, so not too much to say. But helping out the Cococo’s in his district.. Doing pretty good. PCD
Paul Kendrick- not able to get in touch
Grace Garner- is a grown ass college womyn with no time for yruu, jk, she’s just super busy and not physically there anymore so its kind of exclusive to her now. Id groups were good she said.
Kyle-
Didn’t get the email, should have called, but didn’t.
Megan reads the phone chain list.
Those that didn’t do their phone chain are going to send a
report to the YC listserve.
Jazmin- Vanessa Pope, Crystal Cook, Matt Glatz
Kyle- Lance Jennings, Siri Larson, Jessica Akhavein, Alicia Gladman
Hannah- Marcus Leifert, Avalon Zimmerman, Grace Garner, Paul Kendrick
Jova- Lehna and Hope Johnson
Laura- Mary Ellen Morgan, Amy Leyenberger, Katie McAuley, Kendra Rodgers
Asha- Sylvia Bass-West, Dale Brydon, Trevor Moomaw, Rachelle Rickards
Meggie- Erica Lantz, Chrissy Middleton., Brianna Rioux, Lydia Pelot-Hobbs
Katie- Jerry Franklin, Marrissa Gutierrez
Annie- Heather Delong, Jodi Slezak, Gareth Smail
Tim- Mollie, Angelica, Lori
YPS Structure- changed but do we really need to talk about it??
Rollingtour.org (really, rollingthundertour.org)
Megan Selby introduces this organization that brings communities together to understand work that each other are doing. Susan Leslie introduced it to Megan Selby and thinks it’d be a great opportunity for YRUU folx. The tour’s big thing right now is voter registration, and Jesse Jaeger adds that this is a good way to support that resolution. The commitment is to put our name on it and possibly get information out to YCRs. The question is should YRUU be a sponsor org? Another plus would be that this frees the youth office to help get some local youth groups involved.
Consensus reached: YRUU will sponsor rollingthundertour.org
RCRC-Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice
Jason brings up that Morgan Fanning is no longer able to fill as YRUU’s representative to RCRC. Jason suggests that instead of just asking some random YRUUer to step up, we try an application-selection process. RCRC is looking for a younger high school aged youth.
–What if a YRUU wants to support a Pro-Life group/create an official liaisonships. Jason says that he believes that there is a resolution from YC about an official pro-choice stance.
-could we form a committee (maybe of different sacs)
-possibly Marissa could help with this.
-Jova and Tim suggest making a decision at the November conference call.
-When is RCRC’s next meeting?/time frame?
-first how we are going to get someone to go to these meetings and then second, how are we gonna deal with this issue (reproductive rights).
-Annie asks for some more time to think about this.
-Asha suggests that we might subcommittee this
-bike rack the stance on reproductive rights, and discuss
-talks about bringing this up with yc to find a person for this position.
-put out an application and work that process
-concerns about asking yc, will it really make something happen?
-YO will put it in the apply for everything flyer
-general application and every ycr is responsible for having one application per district/one name to receive an application per district.
-working group dealing with how we address the issue and create the application, and then the youth office will put out the application and select the person to liaison with rcrc.
-Jason will email more information about this to folx.
“ok so everyone be quiet and spiritual with me.” –Laura Manning, followed by “quiet and spiritual was the general idea.”
We do the processing thing, the masked Megan reads for us.
Facilitator: Jova Job Jot: Jazmin Time Keeper: Annie Phone Chain: Laura Note Checker: Katie Bike Rack: Jose Energy: Meggie
Addressing Bike Rack:
-What do we do Sunday Morning… Annie will look into visiting Greg’s Youth Group
POCC Selection Discussion
-Greg’s Proposal, Lily’s letter, last year’s sc failed process
-Recreate Application forms (work and try to get the forms out by the DRUUMM con)
-we begin to address the letter from Greg, back ground information is given to give context to the sentence.
-people at sc who are going to be at murray gove to meet with the DRUUMM YAYA Caucus in order to start that working group or subcommittee. At the November conference call, folx interested in continuing the process but who could not be at murray grove can join in.
-Issues of why does POCC exist and what is its purpose come up.
-Concern about POCC having a lack of purpose oustside of youth council.
Create a list of what we want Jova, Jazmin, and Katie to discuss with the DRUUMM YAYA Caucus.
· What are PoCC’s responsibilities after Youth Council? During YC?
· Who is PoCC representing?
· How can we make the selection process accountable to DRUUMM YaYA?
· How is PoCC selected? Do we fill every spot? Who selects?
· How do we publicize?
· What goes on the application? Maybe a question about what they plan to do at youth council?
· What is the purpose of PoCC? Is it purely to have the voice of people of color at Youth Council? Another idea was to go home and get involved in district, to pay attention to racial inequality at YC & in YRUU.
· What is the PoCC’s relation to other youth of color on youth council who are not PoCC and PoCC members?
-one way or another, next year there needs to be more community building in the People of Colour Caucus at YC in order to create unity and solidarity.

AR Piece from an SC member
We access the “White Supremacy Culture” piece from topher’s POA final report. Jason begins the oral presentation (aka reading the piece). The group covers the introduction, about perfectionism, a sense of urgency, defensiveness, quantity over quality, worship of the written word, paternalism, either-or thinking, power hoarding, fear of open conflict, individualism, progress is bigger/more, objectivity, right to comfort, conclusion.
-observed a relation between this and its application to JTW programming
-use in our processing today, keep these pieces in mind
-folx have experience seeing these pieces in committees we’ve worked on
discuss SC role at GA
-last year was kind of exclusive, specifically during the speech/youth caucus meeting it was really unprepared.
-two years ago, sc could have done a better job being more visible in youth caucus and to support the staff.
-want ID (name tag, scarf) for SC
-SC sweatshirts/shirts-steering
-schmooze
-be youth, interact w/ youth caucus
-attend ID groups, biz meetings
-interact with adults and leaders in UUA/CUC
-coordinate schedules to avoid everyone being at the same stuff
-following the rules and being visible and be a good role model
-work the yruu booth
how do we support HUUPER and Staff positions
-go to their events
-do what they ask you to do (make sure you’re there and help)
-be aware of our power
-mingle, don’t be exclusive
-check in with staff
-look for places we can help
-In plenary hall at Cleveland there was a section for all youth to sit, but hasn’t happened since…. Maybe we could make it happen again, promote youth at plenary
-concern brought up that the resolution creating this meeting calls for a sc meeting at GA
-maybe come a day or two early (some folx still have school)
-meet after? Have a conference call the week before?
-plan as much of youth council between now and april, and if sc needs to have more meeting time outside of conventional ga than that will happen.

Need to have a discussion about how do we work with instead of just supporting these organizations.
-Idea about having an American on CUC YAG
-Hannah is interested in serving as SC Liaison to CUC.
Props for stepping up.
-Jova, Meggie and Jazmin will work together to decide who will be the liaison from yruu to DRUUMM.
5 Minute BREAK- and then everyone took a really long time to get back.
We should be aware that Morgan lives in Picket and Elliot and we were very loud and messy last night. We need to be more respectful, of him and other people staying here.
AR Training: January 22-25, 2004 New Orleans, LA
A training for YRUU and CUUYAN leadership (steering committee and possibly conference staff) Most people from YRUU SC say they will probably be able to be there.
Finish with a check-in/process time
Friday Afternoon
Facilitator: Laura Job Jot: Kyle Bike Rack: Jazmin Phone Chain: Hannah
Time Keeper: Tim Note Checker: Asha Energy: Annie
Laura begins by trying to go with the group’s process suggestion in order to work with anti-oppression some. We start, “Unpacking the privilege knapsack.” This exercise is about skin color privilege. We take personal notes, reflect and then have pop corn style sharing. There are a couple general discussion questions.
The exercise came from a notebook Asha provided: The Kit, United Nations Association of Canada (good resource for Canadian anti-oppression work, which YRUU needs).
Next we move into discussing the White Supremacy Culture piece from this morning.
Process: hard to bring these observations outside of caucuses without the safety of bonding.
Makes it even harder when certain dynamics are brought to the table, such as the same people talking first or making assumptions about people of color. Also when folx get up and leave in the middle of the discussion- it is hard to open up and share what is really hard especially without the faith that folx are really here and really listening. The need for bonding is clear and spoken to many times.
Tim Fitz joins the gang in order to bring a discussion on the youth observer and youth trustee on the uua bot. He brings us ideas about nominating committees and what not. Currently, youth apply to the nominating committee and then are selected by the greater ga community which is predominantly made up of adults.
Sc continues with a discussion on what the youth nominating committee could look like. Suggestion: Youth Council, DRUUMM, Youth Caucus.
Call for consensus: the number two proposal with a youth nominating committee is chosen.
A working group to hash out details for this proposal to the board will be formed.
Working group produced the following process:
An amazing opportunity has opened up for the youth and to take full advantage of it we, Steering Committee 2003-04 have created a process to elect a youth to the Board of Trustees. The process starts with the creation of a nominating committee comprised of the following:
3 Youth Caucus members, 1 Steering Committee member, 1 DRUUMM YaYA representative, and 1 Youth Council Representative.
The Steering Committee member will be the chair of the nominating committee and will be required to do the following:
-Campaign for the person nominated
-Keep in contact with the DRUUMM YaYA, the three Youth Caucus, and Youth Council representatives.
-See that everyone on the Committee receives the applications
-Set up the phone conferences
-Receive the applications at GA
-Stay in contact with the Youth Office for funding etc.
-This person will be selected at the January Steering Committee meeting.
The three Youth Caucus members will be elected at GA during the business meeting. If someone from Youth Caucus is interested in being on the nominating Committee hir (gender neutral pronoun) is required to prepare a two minute speech on why the ywould be qualified to serve on the committee. The nominating committee positions need to be widely publicized prior to and during GA (i.e. GA prepacket, website, flyer, HUUPLA). People intrusted in running for the nominating committee must inform the chair of nominating committee. This position requires a 6 month time commitment of at least 3 conference calls to nominate the youth representative.
The DRUUMM YaYA representative will be selected by the DRUUMM YaYA caucus by August and will be required to serve the same commitment as the three youth selected by Youth Caucus at General Assembly.
The Youth Council representative will be selected during the Youth Council meeting and will be required to fulfill the same commitments listed above.
We conclude with timmy mc Fitzgerald

Here we goooooo, here we go one more time, everybody’s doin fine here we go now!
Ok so we’re back after our other computer took a little swim in a glass of water… that wasn’t so hot. Anyways, we came back from our break and with a new schedule. Now Then we busted out our personality tests.
Came back and shared.
And now we’re headin into the Youth Office Reports.
Jesse Jaeger begins with a budget 101. Jesse ties in power, white supremacy and understanding the money system of the UUA. Some folx perk up.
JJ’s report. Exciting things. Youth Advisor Handbook just came out. Jesse discusses the power of YRUU to take on the religious right and taking on their abstinences only programs with OWL program and such. GAYCTF and CCTF.
Funding requests: $1000 for LINC training/ $500 DRUUMM HipHop Party/ $1000 summer intern/ $1500 or $2000 for t-shirts
Annie provides us with a delicious energy break, and megan smelby busts out the mmmmmbob song, yay hanson.
We start discussing money allotment and the YRUU t-shirt.
DRUUMM HipHop Party- $500 allotment, consensus, Jose and Tim stand aside
Jose has a concern that you have to identify along a political line, if not you are not welcome at this event. Clarity provided.
LINC AR Training- $1000, consensus
Summer Intern- $1000, consensus
Concern that 1000 not enough to live on for that amount of time in boston, so assistance will be arranged if needed.
T-Shirt moved to working group
YPS reports
Brian needs insight as to the make up of the C2TF-bike racked
Report back from the UUA BOT working group on bylaw changes from YC
-Language change to include Canadian regions, passed board of trustees
-At a Board of Trustee working group meeting he attended the resolution about the structure of decision making by Youth Caucus rather than Youth Council did not pass, due to relationship lacking between Youth Caucus and Youth Council.
Megan asked not to be fired because she does stuff.
POA report- yeah craziness and unclarity.. the poa report will come soon.

HUUPER Selection
A poem for all those on sc:
Long hot hard meetings
Gassy vegan food inside
Really need to fart
Consensus on Andrea and Annie as HUUPERs
Asha stands aside: anti-racism was too heavily weighted in criteria and priorities for selection
Tim stands aside: doesn’t feel leadership qualities are as strong grounded
Will work with HUUPER’s to select
staff: Asha and Katie
Need to call folx who did and didn’t get the application.
Saturday 25 October 2004:
Joint meeting with the YRUU and CUUYAN Steering Committees
Introductions
Present: Jazmin Sandoz-Rosado, Jova Vargas, Ben Ernst, Laurel Albina, Meggie Dennis, topher west, Kyle Butler, Derrick Butler, Sarah Riddle, Asha Philar, Melanie Griffin, Michael Tino, Laura Manning, Jesse Jaeger, Jonathon Craig, Megan Selby, Katie Whitworth, Bryan Beck, Annie Powell, Tim Murphy, Hannah Eller-Isaacs, Jose Ballester, & Jason Lydon
Check-In about what is going on in the Youth and Young Adult worlds
BOTH
CUUYAN (younger organization than YRUU)
YRUU
Liasions
YRUU has a Post-High Transitional Age Range Representative (TARR) who could act as YRUU’s liaison to CUUYAN.
Sexual Issues
What are the guidelines around sexual issues at youth and young adult events? What is appropriate behavior regarding sexuality?
They’re requesting that youth and young adults be in conversation around these questions as we begin to work together more and more.
Looks like people feel establishing guidelines is very important. Both Steering Committees give the go ahead to do this work.
There is $5000 to do work around this. Could this money be used for Sexually Alternative Teenage Unitarian Universalists Respecting Diversity Among Youth (SATUURDAY)? Looks like maybe not.
Maybe we could have a workshop at
GA that starts this conversation.
Speaking of GA…
We have 2 Hardcore Unitarian Universalist People Energized and Ready (HUUPER) who lead the staff group.
Could we do joint work at GA? Tried to do joint ID Groups last year but there wasn’t follow through? Could we do a joint worship? The CUUYAN AR/AO Coordinator will be at the New Orleans training, maybe if the YRUU ID Group Coordinators can be there too they can do some joint planning.
Identity Caucusing
Coming back: People of Color ID Group wants white folx to know that what they’re about to say is out of love and respect. There may be calling out and some naming of specific things, please know this is in order to build a stronger group and community.
They’ve noticed a lot of power dynamics and white supremacy. People are feeling uncomfortable and that shouldn’t be happening
Specific dynamics:
POCC resolves to try and speak up more when they notice these things but they need to hear the white people say they will listen more.
BIKE RACK
Meggie is facilitating
Discussion about the Advisory Committee for the LINC AR training in New Orleans. Looking at the schedule we found that it would be great for those on the committee (Jazmine, Laura, and Jason) to meet during a short break in the day.
Processing of the discussion that came out of the Identity Group Caucusing. There are more things that need to be said and heard.
§ not trying to single people out during the discussion
§ It was really difficult for everyone to take part in what happened and it was emotional but definitely a good thing that needed to happen.
§ Other things that needed to be called out for community improvement and development were shared as well. This led to some more processing and sharing of feelings and hopes for the group.
We go over the schedule and what not.
Discussion over bridging ceremony happens. Decision is made that Hannah will ask Paul Kendrick to work with mikey tino.
We discuss who will work with the HUUPER to pick staff. Idea brought up to have more than one person from SC and two HUUPERs. It is kicked around that maybe we have more than one person helping choose staff. Asha and Katie want to help pick the staff. Asha wants to give direct input in helping make the decision. Katie would also like to help, but in more of a suggestion type roll.
Can SC members write letters of Recc.
-Idea that it is OK
-For positions that SC picks concern is brought up that it may be inappropo.
-Consensus that for recommendations on positions that SC doesn’t pick, SC members writing those reccs are acceptable.
Positions SC members cannot write recommendations for are: YPSes, HUUPER, ConCon Dean (s), adult at-larges and youth at-larges (for YC)
Can SC folx be on GA staff
-Suggestion that yes folx can, as long as they can stay on top of their work.
-Suggestion that chaplain and HUUPER or ConCon dean positions be blocked to SC folx for this year.
-ConCon is not a mandatory event for SC, so why would that be a problem as long as applicant leaves the process of decision-making.
-Concern about confidentiality piece about who applied, staff cannot disclose that information.
-Consensus: as long as the applicant is not part of the decision making process and other applicants are withheld from the sc applicant (in the same fashion as yps applicants) then sc folx can run for conference staff positions.
Working Groups:
BOT process
POCC
C2TF-
Common Ground Three
Read JD’s letter and discuss for 15 minutes
Possibilities: Common Ground III to happen or not. We try calling JD for clarity and she’s not there. Kyle refers to PIE HEAVEN.
Things to do from Jenny’s Letter:
-Create a letter or proposal for the BOT
-Resolution (for YC) needs revised with input from different groups
(DRUUMM, YCR’s,
maybe a survey
send a letter out about common ground III (from Bill)
Hannah suggests that the letter be co-written by an SC member and Bill
Question raised over whether a survey is needed or not.
We side track like its our job in order to discuss Sunday morning.
Consensus: they will create a big breakfast tomorrow
Energy break consisting of screaming
Back to Common Ground
Summary of discussion and back into it. Specifically back into the discussion on a survey.
Katie suggests that we job jot a couple of people to do what we’ve brainstormed.
-if surveys are a lot of work, just ask for specific suggestions on the proposal.
Laura, Jova, Jazmin, Tim, Annie will form a committee.
The committee will either form a process or begin a process (such as surveying).
This is includes the type of feedback needed and what way to get it. Megan Smelby volunteers to be the staff person for this committee.
By December this committee will have sent out this survey or at least have completed it.
-Jesse reminds the crew that CCIII is a huge deal, can end YRUU and form a new program. He recommends that folx take their time and are very deliberate about this process.
-the idea of Common Ground being a spokes-council type thing is brought up.
-Katie would be interested in going to the DRUUMM conference (at Murray Grove and the one in the spring) and getting feedback not in the form of a survey, but raw feedback about common ground and the proposal, the group totally is supportive.
Working Group report back:
Anyways, the group about the BOT Youth Trustee position process working group reports back.
(see recommendation in earlier notes
after discussion with Tim Fitzgerald)
the recommendation passed and is now a formal recommendation to the BOT
The People of Colour Caucus group reports
They created a list of questions for the application, which they are going to approve through the DRUUMM YAYA Caucus. They intend to have two of the working group, and two members of DRUUMM YaYA Caucus with a goal of having the application complete before Murray Grove.
They also created a list of qualities desired.
Things to look for!
-a few good leaders
-differnt ranges of experience but at least a
few with a lot of experence
-different perspectives on race in yruu, life
and in the world political and social
-variety of ages and identies
-looking for people who can help rep. for the
poc in yruu and have a range of skills
questions
why is ar/ao work important to you?\
what ar/ao work have you done?(if any)
do you have any ties with ar/ao/poc
orgnizations?
what leadership skills do you have?
what identies do you clame?
who picks?
POCAC and 2 youth reps. from druumm yaya
Tshirts and Fundraising Group
Mostly discussed T-Shirts
Specifically the popularity of the baseball t-shirt
Also wringers.
Black and white baseball t with the YRUU Phish!
Story about organizing phishes and folx.
Margaret Mead: “Never underestimate that a smaller group of people can change the world, it is the only thing that ever has”
Also, discussed creating discs with a logo on front.
The greater discussion about color for discussion.
Decided that there will not be baseball t-shirts and there will be baseball ts.
Discussion about green color, type of print etc.
-Accessibility issues with the discs.
Continue the discussion.
-The Committee to decide this is Hannah, Annie.
Taking a Stance on Issues (Represent that Shyt)
- form a youth panel to recommend to Steering Committee which organizations we want to support and/or liason with. Panel could meet over phone or email…
- youth Council and youth caucus have taken stances on issues. More so LRY style.
- How to Partner with other organizations: Youth Council Representatives could be representin’. YCR people who are representin’ would report to their SC phone chain person
- Youth Caucus could make decisions at Business meetings
- There should be 2 resolution passing times each year
- possibly YSJC could take a stance for YRUU as well
No consensus decisions were made here. How is YRUU making a stance on issues?
ConCon Taskforce:
Which people would be on this, how would they be selected… all sorts of questions
Currently there are 8 YC members who are having this discussion (these are people who volunteered during Youth Council to be part of this revisioning). These people could act like the “design team” to create the taskforce which would include:
1 current YPS, 1 past YPS who worked on ConCon back in the day (their perspective could be helpful because they were working at a time when ConCon was more successful) 2 past deans of ConCon, 1 SC member, CUUYAN event planning person (they have a different type of conference planning structure and they could give good suggestions on how something non-youth office could run ConCon), 1 from DRUUMM YaYA, 2 never gone to ConCon and approximately 3 random ConCon attendees. A group of about 10 people. There could be an application process for certain people who would be on this Taskforce and then have a selection by the 8 YC members who make up the “design team”. Then they would ask for $$$.
Transition time: The Youth Office plans it this year and then next year there is a combination with the Youth Office and this Taskforce. Then whatever the plan is for the Taskforce to have some sort of plan for the year after that.
Youth Council:
Agenda:
Update from the Y.O. on the planning thus far
Brainstorm what we want to change from last year
Coming up with a list of AR/AO Trainers
*process suggestion* split up into working groups to decide different parts of the conference (i.e. AR, schedule, plenary…)
Schedule
Business Manager/Facilitator/Moderator
Y.O. Report:
Bryan reports on confirming sites. Connifer Camp is one possibility for Youth Council if we want to have ConCon and YC in the same place. The two weeks are the last two weeks of July rather than last week of July and first week of August. The other possibility is at Whittier College (YC was here in 1998). At the camp the price break works like this: less than 110 people then the cost is very similar to that of the costs for Whittier College. There are benefits for both. Colleges are more comfortable but we would have to move people from the ConCon site. Camp is not as nice as the College but there would be no travel cost from ConCon to YC. College is also much more meeting conducive.
Consensed to go to Whittier College for Youth Council. (Last week of July for Con Con)
No reservations or stand asides
How can YC ’03 be improved?
-really important stuff (resolutions) left for last minute
-site
-SC went really strong for first couple of days and then they got a bit tired and weren’t on top of things as much. Let’s be more on top of things next year.
-everything was a bit late
-Come up with Back-up Plans for when things fall through
-funner dance
-more education about what SC is and what they have to do as well as explain the process for running for positions
-dispell confusion about the jobs and such, maybe send out in the prepacket information about positions and the task at YC
-SC needs to hype up SC lots o lot
-more community building esp. around POCC and the rest of YC
-safer sex Olympics… or other cool games that are fun and educational
-follow up on A-Teams and more direction for A-Teams
-more meeting rooms
-keep having a nurse
-better worships
Working Groups Brainstorm:
-Schedule
-AR/AO trainers and other events/activities
-Special Events
-Business
-Worship
-A-Teams
Possibly some working groups could be grouped into different sections possibly one group being working on now and other being working on them later and not consistently.
Processing of the meeting:
Since the conversation this afternoon there was more calling out and the power dynamics seemed to improve.
Ex-Officio’s might want to raise their hands and ask if the group wants their point of information or processing suggestion before actually giving it.
Do stuff on the first night that we can get done so that the last night we do not have as much work to be doing.
Who is going to create next meetings agenda?
Asha and Laura will do this along with Jason or Megan.
